The Existence of God Part One

Yet a thinking person must question the validity of all propositions, including the proposition that God is. The Lord has made man to think and reason. He must test all truth claims and discover by reasonable methods the accuracy of each claim. If you are a Christian it may seem silly to try to convince you of the reality of the Lord Jesus Christ. It’s like trying to persuade you that your mother or father truly exists. Or it may seem as odd as trying to introduce you to someone you already know. But if you are not a believer, I have some things I would like for you to consider.

I. THE BIBLE NEVER PROVES THE EXISTENCE OF GOD

It is remarkable that the Bible doesn’t try to persuade anyone of God’s reality. It simply asserts it. The Bible declares God; it reveals Him, but it does so in a way that does not argue in defense of God. God is presented and the reader is left to deal with His existence.

Why Does the Bible Not Try to Prove God’s Existence?

This is a great question. It is a question not asked enough. Why then would the Bible declare God’s being and read as if there was no question about its reliability? Didn’t God know that men would naturally question Him and His existence? Of course. But the Bible’s method of communication is as telling as what the Bible says. By not defending the existence of God, the Bible is making a bold and glorious statement. It is telling us that God is self-evident. The reality of His existence is all around us. David said, “The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork” (Psalms 19:1).  It is stating unequivocally that it is foolish to not believe in God. Again David says, “The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God.’ They are corrupt, They have done abominable works, There is none who does good” (Psalms 14:1).
