How to Interpret Gods Word Part 1

You truly do not enjoy a book, movie, or anything else that you cannot understand. This is the problem many people have with the Bible—they find it too complex and difficult to understand, and they lose interest in studying it.

The Bible is not as hard as men have made it out to be. There are some difficult sections that are considered a mystery. But that is because God has purposed those things to remain hidden until the proper time. The Bible as a whole, however, is not hidden in double talk or shrouded in mystery. It is a fairly easy book to grasp if read according to proper rules of interpretation.

You must not make the mistake thinking that Bible study is a breeze. It isn’t. It is hard work. Paul writing to Timothy said, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). Rightly handling the Bible takes effort, and is the means by which we endeavor to present ourselves approved to God.

You Must Believe the Bible Is Understandable.

One thing that must take place if you are going to study and appreciate the Bible is a change of mind concerning its understandability. You must believe the Bible is understandable. It is just that simple. One cannot find the Bible easy to comprehend if he does not believe it to be. What happens is the reader rejects the plain statements of Scriptures and tries to figure out some secret code behind the words. He or she reads between the lines trying to discover some deeper meaning.
