Jesus — Immanuel or Imposter?

New Testament Evidence of Jesus’ Deity

Jesus’ Claims of Deity

Our Lord was not shy about being God. When His person was in question by the Pharisees He said to them that He was the “I AM.” “Jesus said to them, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM’” (John 8:58). On many occasions to the disciples and others He claimed to be one with God, the Father.

I and my Father are one. (John 10:30)

And he who sees Me sees Him who sent Me. (John 12:45)

Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?” (John 14:9)

1. Jesus accepted worship

It is sin to worship anyone or thing except the Lord God. It is also sin to accept worship. Peter was careful to not let men praise him. For example, Luke records in Acts 10:25-26, “As Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him and fell down at his feet and worshiped him. But Peter lifted him up, saying, ‘Stand up; I myself am also a man.’”

The angel escorting the Apostle John in heaven refused worship, “And I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, ‘See that you do not do that! I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy’” (Revelation 19:10).
