How to Pray

Appointed Place

As there is an appointed time there should be an appointed place. This place is designated to be your place to meet with God in prayer. It is best that nothing but prayer is done in this place, but not essential. Again, you must establish a routine of private prayer. This is will aid you in that effort.

Appointed Attitude

So often a common complaint about prayer is the sense of God not being there. Prayer seems more like a monologue rather than a dialogue. If you enter your time of prayer thinking to experience the presence of God by God making you to feel Him, you may be … no, you probably … you will be disappointed. The presence of the Lord is not is not mediated by feelings, but by faith in the truth. The Bible says, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and [that] He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6). Faith is the appointed attitude.

The Holy Spirit is called the Spirit of truth. He manifests Himself in the truth of the gospel. When Jesus was explaining worship to the woman at the Samaritan well He said that the Father desired a worship that consisted “in spirit and truth” (John 4:24). As you and I believe the truth with conviction, the presence of the Lord is made real to us.
