The book of Hebrews is the only book of the New Testament whose author we do not know. However, it meets the inspiration test in that nothing written in it contradicts any other teaching of the Bible. Even its author claims to have received his teaching from the apostles; “how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him” (Hebrews 2:3).
THE NEW TESTAMENT CANON MUST DETERMINE THE CANON OF THE OLD TESTAMENT
This is a principle that few seem to mention. Nonetheless, it must be observed otherwise the certainty of our Scriptures is left up to men to validate. Men cannot sit in judgment upon the Word of God. Man is not the final authority.
For that reason, no church or institution has the authority to determine Scripture. The Roman Catholic institution believes Holy Scripture is not identical with divine revelation, but only a part of it. According Catholic teaching, the Bible; contains many sacred truths, but the Roman Catholic Church has not defined those as dogma. But no church has the right given to it by God to be in authority over the Bible. Only God and His appointed representatives, who were the apostles, can tell us what is God’s word and what isn’t. Otherwise you make a church the final authority rather than God.
Clearly, Scripture must determine Scripture. The Word of God must rule supreme. It is God’s testimony to man. Therefore, if God is to have the rule over us, then His Word must reign.
