Disciplined In Exercise
I will not give too much attention to this for two reasons—first, everyone’s body is different, and therefore, some are more prone to difficulty in exercise than others. Second, the Bible does not put a great deal of stock in bodily exercise. It says, “For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come” (1 Timothy 4:8).
The Bible says that exercise does some good; it does profit “a little.” But the main reason to include exercise in this list of disciplines is for the fact that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit, therefore, we should do our best to care for them. We have been given these bodies as a steward is given the trust of his master’s property. 1 Corinthians 6:19 says, “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?”
Perhaps the most beneficial exercise for those able to exert themselves physically is walking. The benefits of walking just 30 minutes a day is amazing. Of course, in the Bible walking was for most the readily available means of transportation.
