Here are some examples of questions that would help you to understand what the verse is really saying:
What thoughts does the word therefore connect?
Why the emphatic words, I say to you?
What is the meaning of worry?
What is the meaning of life?
What is the meaning of body?
What would food and clothing mean to the hearers?
What is the symbolic meaning of food and clothing?
To whom is Jesus speaking?
How do I apply this to my life?
These kinds of questions help stimulate the mind to think more deeply about the passage, as well as letting the text speak for itself. Even though you think you may know what the verse is saying, you don’t let your presuppositions rule.
