Saved to Struggle

Another word of insight is found in Revelation 12:11: “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.” Three things are said to be the means of the Christian’s victory.

First is the blood of the Lamb. Immediately we think of our salvation when we read these words. But the import is with the assurance of our salvation. Again, Satan is the accuser of the brethren. He attacks our conscience by holding our sins over our heads, trying to get us to doubt our standing with God. But the Christian’s weaponry is the reminding of himself and the devil that the blood of Jesus is sufficient to cleanse and continually cleanse us of sin. When a Christian sins he must repent and confess the sin, believing that the blood of the Lamb is able to cleanse.

Second, Revelation 12:11 states Christians defeat the devil by their testimony. The testimony of our experience with Christ is inarguable and tremendously powerful. These Christians to which John is referring kept their testimony and refused to recant even in the face of death.

This leads to the third weapon, and that is they did not love their lives unto death. In other words, they did what Jesus said—they were willing to lose their life in this world in order to gain life in the world to come.

34 - ChapterTwelve-Closing
We do not need to wonder if temptation will come. It is as certain as the Lord’s return. Our victory over temptation can also be certain. The possibility of victory is always certain, but the guarantee of victory is dependent on our quickness to use the tools outlined to counter the devices of the devil.
