Finally, he no longer insinuates but boldly lies, “Then the serpent said to the woman, ‘You will not surely die’” (Genesis 3:4). It was because of these series of lies that the Apostle Paul would one day say in 1 Timothy 2:14, “And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.”
Since that first day the devil has been deceiving and lying. He has continually lied to gain the advantage. If we believe his lies then a wedge is created in our fellowship with God. If faith comes by hearing the word of the Lord, then doubt must come from hearing and believing the word of the devil.
Now we must not think the devil can only speak lies. Jesus didn’t mean in John 8:44 that Satan cannot make a truthful statement. The devil will just as easily speak the truth if it will further his diabolical agenda. Demons spoke truth about Jesus in Luke 4:41: “Many were possessed by demons; and the demons came out at His command, shouting, ‘You are the Son of God!’ But because they knew He was the Messiah, He rebuked them and refused to let them speak.” The enemy’s use of the truth is always barbed with poison and must be carefully handled. Most often if Satan or a demon speaks the truth it is only a half-truth.
The devil and his gang cannot be trusted. And it is their playing with the facts or even the out and out lies that destroy. His deception has ruined many. In fact, the last word we have in the Bible about Satan is Revelation 20:10, which again refers to his hatred of the truth. “The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are.”
