Believers have been given authority over the enemy. We personally do not possess more power than the devil, but we have been given a position over him. Jesus said that He has given us the authority to trample over the kingdom of darkness. It is the power of Christ in us. He sent out the seventy to do ministry and they returned rejoicing that demons had been subject to them. Jesus replied,
I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven. (Luke 10:18-20)
The Apostle Paul writing to the Ephesians tells us the Christian’s position is in Christ at the right hand of God the Father. Paul wrote, “and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:6).
Yet, even though we have this position, just like Adam and Eve, if we believe the lies of the devil or his intimidating behavior, then we give authority and ground to the devil. Again the Apostle Paul warns us to not give place to the devil (Ephesians 4:27). You have nothing to fear from this defeated foe.
