One can hardly picture a major university professor of antiquity standing before his or her students disputing the authenticity of any of the classic works. Yet, day after day, men attack the Bible as being spurious due to a lack of textual worthiness. But not one book of all history has as much textual documentation as the Bible. Something is just not right! If the Bible is not reliable with 5,686 full manuscripts within 25 to 50 years of original authorship, then neither are Shakespeare’s plays, Caesar’s Gaelic Wars, Plato’s, writings, or Homer’s Iliad.
Survival Through Persecution
Voltaire, the French atheist who died in 1778, said 100 years after his death the Bible would be a thing of the past. Fifty years after his death, his very house was used to print and warehouse Bibles. No other book has had as many attempts to destroy it, yet the Bible still survives.
Men throughout the centuries have died because of their belief in the authority and authenticity of the Bible. William Tyndale, an English theologian, was hanged and then burned at the stake because it was his conviction that every Englishman should have the New Testament in his common language.
