II. THE INTUITIVE REVELATION OF GOD
When the existence of God is examined, the ways in which God can be known must be discussed. But not all knowledge is transmitted or received through the powers of reason. There is a knowledge of God’s existence that is instinctive to humanity. From every town and village to every sprawling metropolis to every tribe and tongue, people instinctively believe in the existence of a supreme deity. This is called the intuitive revelation. It is to know something is true independent of reason.
Knowledge is Acquired by Means Other Than Just the Senses
The knowledge of God is universally instinctive because there is a body of knowledge perceived intuitively. Once again, let’s stroll down into the most basic kind of logic. It may seem laughable but it’s nonetheless true. That’s why it’s so laughable—because everyone accepts these propositions without question.
To be aware of oneself is innate to us all. We all have a consciousness of ourselves. We do not question our existence because it is self-evident. Our knowledge of ourselves is therefore instinctive and unlearned. You do not go to school to learn that you exist. You exist and you are aware of the fact that you exist. You know this intuitively.
Another example of intuitive knowledge is the knowledge of moral virtue. Irrespective of culture, there are certain moral expectations and taboos that are common. Nobody need instruct us that stealing is wrong. Something innate tells us it is.
