“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.” (Romans 12:1)
Third, if you are to be filled with the Spirit, you must take God at his word and ask in child-like trust. Some of God’s promises are unconditional, others are conditional. This is one of those promises that seem to have both a conditional and unconditional quality. As we have stated already, most people are filled with the Holy Spirit at the moment of conversion. But afterwards, to keep being filled requires the condition of faith.
Jesus, speaking to his disciples, said in Luke 11:11-13,
If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!
