How do we love others as Jesus loves us? By serving people with our lives. If we are not willing to give our lives away, we do not love like Jesus. It’s that simple. Whatever love we have is superficial, if not selfish, and besides that, we are disobeying His command. Does it seem impossible to love like Jesus? Although no one has perfectly imitated Jesus in this area, it doesn’t mean we cannot obey.

In order to obey there are four things true of Jesus that must be true of our lives as witnesses.

1.  We must be filled with the Holy Spirit.

If Christ was filled with the power of the Holy Spirit in order to make disciples, how much more must we be controlled by the same power?

2.  We must be holy.

If we are not living above the world’s standards and values, then we are not any different from the world. And if we are not different what then is our attraction? Why would anyone come up to you and ask you for the reason for your hope?

3.  We must get involved in someone’s life.

Just as the Lord was willing to bear with twelve men and their weaknesses and idiosyncrasies, we must likewise bear with those whom the Holy Spirit puts into our lives. We must see a person’s life as an investment.
